Members of the same body - my two cents

As Christians, we are all members of the same body; the body of Christ.
Unfortunately, these days there seems to be an over abundance of mouths and a severe shortage of hands and hearts.

Today, I'm thinking about David.

Meek and small, he was probably able to run faster than anyone in God's army and yet... when push came to shove, while the other soldiers were shuddering, shaking, and melting in their army, David did not run. He stood his ground.

He picked up the most insignificant of weapons.. probably because it was the closest thing to him.. and he spoke words of POWER.. He told Goliath and his chortling cohorts that he was coming against his humongous self in the mighty Name of Jesus... the KING of KINGS!!!

He didn't stutter.. He didn't shudder... He didn't shake.. He didn't quake.. and he didn't run. He put a rock in his slingshot, declared to his enemy that he was going to go about God's business, and he swung that slingshot and nailed the giant square between the eyes.

He was small in stature... but he had faith MUCH bigger than Goliath!!!

My prayer is that we could all be like David and stand up in faith... knowing that NO man can hurt us as long as we're under the shadow of the wings of the Almighty.

A Vision from God

I am not a person who gets visions. I get messages from God sometimes, but not visions.. so I'm going to step out very tentatively here.
This morning I felt in my spirit, The whole earth is on sinking sand. There will be a great shaking of the richest and most heavily industrialized areas in the world. Those using God's creation for their own financial gain. I am seeing tall buildings crumbling and falling into the seas. Feeling Dubai in my spirit. I see drones watching the destruction from high up places.
This world's idea of wealth and its mis-use of what possesses them is not being taken lightly by God. The thickness of man's wallet holds no merit with Him. He is no respector of persons. In His eyes, we are all equal.
This world needs to wake up and realize that it's not about us. It's about God.. it's about others... God gave us eyes to focus outwards.. outside of ourselves.. yet we're turning inwards and have become an almost irreperably selfish society.

He is in the MIDST of everything

Jesus didn't say 'when/where three or more are gathered in my name in
my name, their prayers will be answered.' He didn't say they would be blessed. He didn't say they would get what their hearts desired.
He said He would be there.. in the midst of those gathered in prayer.
Sometimes, we don't get what we hope for; what we pray for... what we long for.. but, no matter what... Jesus is there.. right in the very midst of it all. In the midst of our angst, our pain, our sorrow. He is there.

My Review of Unoffendable by Brant Hansen

Brant Hansen delves into the subject of offense with humility, candor, and, most importantly, a sense of humor.  His humor grabbed my attention from the very first page.

Again, I'm one who enjoys first person accounts of stories and Brant did not disappoint.  His transparency in this book is refreshing and enjoyable.  At times, I felt as though I were peering through someone else's eyes and looking into my own life.

Offense has always been a big issue for me in my life. It's one that I still struggle with.  'Unoffendable' helped me to realize that, not only am I far from being alone in this 'unhealthy spirit', but there is hope and that being rid of the spirit of offense is a goal that is absolutely attainable.

Unoffendable has Scripture quoted throughout with a very healthy dose of funny.  The humor made this read particularly enjoyable to me.  It allowed me to look at my own life through eyes tilted upwards in a squint rather than through eyes darkened beneath a furrowed brow.

I also enjoyed that Brant dove straight into the subject of offense and didn't beat around the bush.

This was a very enjoyable read.

I hope to see more of Brant's books in the future.

My Review of Divided: When the Head and Heart Don't Agree by Bill Delvaux

I honestly found this book a bit difficult to read in terms of, once again, having to be real with myself and pull off my masks.

I suppose, mostly because I was called out in many sections of it... forced to come face to face with myself, so to speak.  I guess that's a good thing.

I've been a Christian for over 20 years.  I find that, still, I have many moments where my head and my heart are at odds with each other when it comes to the things of God.  I try to delve into the Word.. to throw myself into His arms... and trust Him completely *that's what my heart wants* ... yet, I find myself tentative.. contemplative...afraid *this would be the response of my head*.

Reading this book caused me to do some real soul searching.  I found myself many time asking if getting to know and to trust God was truly what I wanted.  In some chapters, I was left with more questions than answers, but I felt strangely 'normal' as I continued to read.

This book consists of three parts:

#1.  Viewing the Divide: How it Began and What it Destroys.

#2.  Tackling the Divide:  Three Terrains to Navigate.

#3.  Closing the Divide:  What the Journey Feels Like.

I found the sections pretty self explanatory and an interesting read.

This book is not a problem solver per se.  It is somewhat of a  'How To' on closing the gap between your mind and your heart.  It causes the reader to ask a lot of questions.

I had to be really honest with myself while reading this book.  I enjoyed it.  I'm not sure how much smaller the divide is between my head and my heart, but I hope, in time, it will be much smaller.  Reading this book gave me more motivation to forge ahead on my journey with my Savior.

I found 'Divided' to be an easy and pleasant read. I would recommend it if you find that there is a chasm between your own heart and head.
