The Fragrance of the Lord

Have you ever been in an elevator or another confined space with someone who's wearing too much perfume/cologne?  You know what I'm talking about... the stench is so strong, you're ready and willing to hit every single button on that elevator just to be able to get out sooner and be able to breathe again.

God isn't like that.  He's like a perfume with a sweet, subtle fragrance.  It's soft and gentle; not overpowering.  It lingers in the air just enough so that you know without a doubt that He's there.  He isn't overwhelming or overpowering.  HE doesn't make you want to run.  He makes you want to press in closer and enjoy His fragrance.

My Review of Make It Happen: Surrender Your Fear. Take the Leap. Live On purpose by Lara Casey

I almost always choose to read books that apply to my current life situation.

Right now.. I'm feeling 'stuck'.  Like life isn't really moving.. at all.. in any direction.

That's why, I believe, I was drawn to this book, Make It Happen, by Lara Casey.

I had a bit of a hard time getting in to this book, to be honest.  It was refreshing to read the author's personal accounts and her journey, but something just 'wasn't happening' for me.

I put the book down for a while and left it alone until I felt I was in a better, more motivated, state of mind.  It wasn't a mistake to do that.

I enjoyed this book very much.  I enjoyed reading, as I mentioned, about the author's personal journey and experiences.  Especially the fact that they so closely paralleled mine.  There's something very unnerving about feeling alone.. and like you're the only one who's going through certain experiences.  It's no fun.

I did not feel alone while reading this book.  I felt like what I'm going through right now, though difficult and discouraging, is normal.  That I WILL get through this.. with help and grace from God.. but that, most importantly, it is ME that makes it happen.. nobody else but me.

I also enjoyed the questions that we got to answer throughout the book.  It made the experience of reading this book more 'hands on' and involved.  I need to be involved.  It felt like more of an exercise and less of a 'task' reading this book by being able to participate directly in the pages.

I would recommend this book to anyone who feels like they're in a 'rut'.. or, like me, who didn't move in any direction because of fear... because of the notion that my past predicted my future.

I have learned to not wait, hope, or pray for things to come to me.. but to go ahead and make them happen.  Before a dream job became a job, it was first a dream.. right?

You picked up this book for a reason.  You won't regret reading it.
